A Perspective for Research, Education, and Integration

Essential oils are not a new concept; however, they are garnering more attention as people are seeking personalized and natural solutions for wellness in an ever-changing atmosphere of rising health care costs, super bugs and an overall growing concern of filling our bodies with synthetic and chemical properties. doTERRA is redefining the use of essential oils through education, research and experience. It is our mission to unite both health care professionals of traditional and alternative medicine, as well as to encourage further study and application of therapeutic-grade essential oils in modern health care practices.

Research, Educate, and Integrate

doTERRA has an ongoing interest in pursuing research into essential oils to enhance our understanding of the powerful benefits they provide. For this purpose, we have assembled a board of scientific advisors uniquely qualified to offer influential expertise from a variety of areas of health. The members of the doTERRA Scientific Advisory Board are appointed because of their leadership and experience in their respective professional fields, as well as their desire to learn, research, and educate about essential oils.

One of the various roles of the Scientific Advisory Board is to give support and explanation of the science behind doTERRA’s CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils and products.

Board members will be crucial in bringing forth new research, as well as helping to interpret, offer opinion and share research discoveries with the intent to educate. The board currently offers expertise in quality, integration into mainstream medicine, and the microbiological aspects of essential oils.

doTERRA’s Scientific Board is very unique. Each board member has chosen to dedicate their time and abilities specifically because of their enthusiasm for essential oils, as well as their steady interest in promoting the health of others. The members of the board will change from time to time as doTERRA continues to grow and adapt to the demand for essential oils in the healthcare field. The Scientific Board will be instrumental in providing validation for the use of essential oils in healthcare and everyday use.

A Letter to Practitioners from Dr. Hill

Dear Practitioner,

Essential oils in patient care is an exciting and developing opportunity. Over the past several years I have witnessed and experienced a greater interest for research and specific models of health care application.

One of the most appealing attributes of essential oils is their extensive application. In the hospital environment they have been utilized as an adjunct to traditional therapy models and in some case have been utilized as preferable treatment. In Asian and European cultures there is an aggressive approach for the use of essential oils in medicine.

A more reserved but yet consistent outlook has been fostered in the United States.

There is growing interested in private practice for greater understanding and reliable information to be shared with patients who may be choosing to use essential oils on their own. I perceive this to be of great benefit to them and to the physicians who choose to discover their value.

Evidence based protocols and information is a primary concern. Currently there are thousands of peer-reviewed medical studies suggesting the value of essential oils in modern medical practice. These studies have been focused on many major concerns in medicine, namely the progression of specific disease like cancer. As a result there are many ongoing studies focused on more understanding regarding specific pathways and chemical activity. The conclusion is often that essential oils are potent therapeutic agents.

While the willingness to abandon current practice models is ill-advised it does offer potential for effective secondary care with what should be considered potent and effective therapeutic agents.

The use of essential oils is not limited to specific disease care. There is much to consider in the daily routine of more common ailments many of which can be suitably addressed through personalized family care. Certainly individuals have found benefit in using essential oils as an alternative to common over the counter medicines. Essential oils have a long documented history and are effective and safe when used as medicines for personal health.

While many medical professionals are open and may embrace such principles, it is critical that there be recognition for the quality of oils utilized in practice. Many essential oils in the open market are synthetic derivatives of the natural oil produced from plants. The research is beginning to illustrate clearly that synthetic oils are not as effective and do not create the same benefit as pure or non-synthetic essential oils. I would recommend that anyone who has an interest in the use of essential oils for therapeutic benefit understand the quality of the oil first.

I invite you to explore the possibilities that exist with essential oils and participate in the development of the most appropriate models for use and application through personal experience and active patient care.

Kindly,

Dr. David Hill
